Performance
The 2018 Jaguar I-Pace comes standard with an all-electric
drivetrain that provides the equivalent of up to 394 horsepower at 4,250 rpm
and an impressive 512 pound-feet of torque. Those are pretty good numbers for
an electric vehicle, especially when you consider the size of the chassis that
the drivetrain is powering. The I-Pace is also capable of accelerating from
zero to 60 in only 4.5 seconds.
The 2018 Tesla Model X 75D offers up to 518 horsepower, according
to Tesla, and an acceleration from zero to 60 in approximately 4.9 seconds.
While Tesla is claiming a much higher horsepower, though, the fact that the
acceleration can't compete with the I-Pace suggests that the Tesla's power
distribution isn't quite as efficient as the I-Pace.
Fuel Economy
Because electric vehicles don't consume traditional fuel, fuel
economy becomes a relative term when comparing these two vehicles. Instead,
you're going to want to take a close look at how far each SUV can travel on a
single charge. The 2018 Jaguar I-Pace comes equipped with an array of
90-kilowatt batteries that provide an estimated maximum range of 240 miles
under normal driving conditions.
The 2018 Tesla
Model X 75D,
on the other hand, comes in at a lower range of 237 miles on a single charge. A
disparity of only three miles per charge is likely not much of a deal breaker
for most shoppers, but it could make the difference in a pinch if you're not
able to stop at a charging station before you make it home.
Luxury & Convenience
Â
In terms of interior luxuries, both vehicles are on pretty even
ground. You're going to find all of the latest technology in each SUV,
including touchscreen panels, onboard navigation, and even AI-powered auto-pilot
features.Really, you'll feel more like the captain of a futuristic starship
than a driver behind the wheel of either vehicle. It is worth noting, however,
that the massive display that takes up the entire central portion of the
Tesla's dash is walking a fine line between highly distracting and downright
overwhelming. There's just too much going on to allow for safe interaction from
behind the wheel.
The I-Pace, on the other hand, makes some really intelligent
design choices when it comes to driver interaction, making control of onboard
systems much more intuitive and easier to navigate while you're on the road.
No matter which one of these vehicles you choose, you're going to
end up behind the wheel of something truly special. The 2018 Jaguar I-Pace,
however, is a slightly better electric SUV overall. Test drive one today and see for yourself!
