Performance
Both the Maserati and the new Jaguar XJ offer drivers the option of either a V-6 or V-8 engine. The standard engine on the Jaguar is a 3.0-liter 340 horsepower supercharged V-6 engine, and there is also an available 5.0-liter V-8 that outputs up to 470 horsepower. The top trim of the long-wheelbase version also offers a special 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 that produces 575 horsepower. The Maserati offers a V-8 that can output up to 523 horsepower, which is plenty for a sports car, but not quite as impressive as the Jaguar's top engine. Â
Both vehicles come equipped with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system that immediately redistributes torque when it detects slippage. However, the XJ offers Jaguar's innovative All Surface Progress Control feature, designed to help you navigate slippery conditions, especially when driving on an incline. All you have to do is focus on steering, and the All Surface Progress Control will take care of the rest.Â
Fuel Economy
The XJ wins hands-down in this category. The EPA estimates vary for both vehicles depending on the trim, but the base model XJ is rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg on the highway, while the Maserati gets a paltry 16 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway. You'll pay more for gas in the Quattroporte and also pay more up front due to its higher sticker price.Â
Luxury & Convenience

The new XJ redefines what a luxury car should be by providing the driver with a combination of beauty, luxury, and convenience. Both vehicles provide plenty of leg and headroom for drivers and passengers to stretch out and relax as well as hand-stitched leather detailing throughout the cabin to provide you with the added comfort you would expect in a luxury vehicle.Â
The new Quattroporte provides a touchscreen display to allow you to stay connected with your contacts, music, and navigation on your Apple or Android device. The 2019 Jaguar XJ also includes a state of the art Touch Pro system to allow you to control much of the technology of your car with the touch of a button. The Jaguar also steps up the convenience by adding a center armrest that can easily store all of your media devices.
The XJ has a few additional touches, however, that outshine the Quattroporte. For example, heated steering is included on the base model XJ, while it will cost you extra in the Maserati. The automated park assist system on the Jaguar even allows you to sit back and relax while your car does all the work of parallel parking or backing into a perpendicular spot. Despite its many conveniences, the Quattroporte doesn't include an automated parking system.Â
For drivers looking for comfort, luxury, performance, and convenience, both the 2019 Jaguar XJ and the 2019 Masseratti Quattroporte both answer the call, but the Jaguar will ultimately provide you with more value for your dollar in a number of different categories.Â
